Let the AQCC Hear Your Need for Safe, Clean Air!
On Thursday, September 17 the Air Quality Control Commission (AQCC) is meeting to address monitoring and reducing emissions that occur during oil and gas drilling and before production takes place (known as pre-production), emissions from natural gas-fired engines used on-site, and oil and gas injection facility controls. This rulemaking is the second in a series of rulemakings under the Commission’s legislative mandate to minimize emissions across the oil and gas supply chain including ozone-forming pollutants known as volatile organic compounds, methane — a powerful greenhouse gas — and hazardous air pollutants like benzene. The current proposal from the AQCC is a step in the right direction, but lacks clarity and transparency to ensure that monitoring results are meaningful. It is critical that the new Commissioners (who were just appointed this summer) hear from members of the public about why stronger protections are needed to reduce emissions from oil and gas facilities, protecting our public health and our climate.
