Wait...what is a Grassroots Democracy intern?
Our high school students are the next generation of decision makers in western Colorado, and not enough of them are registered to vote. We know the best people to register students -- are other students! Grassroots Democracy interns are local students in Mesa, Montrose, and Garfield county organizing their peers to register to vote.
Every year the Colorado Secretary of State presents an award to high schools where 85% of their senior students are registered to vote. We want that award in our schools, and our Grassroots Democracy interns will pave the way!

Our Grassroots Democracy interns will be trained throughout July so they are ready to hit the ground running when school starts in August. Our regional launch event is at the 4th of July Parade in Grand Junction on July 4th! There, we will have a float with students walking alongside and registering people to vote. It's going to be a blast, but even if you can't make it we absolutely want you as an intern!
The Western Colorado Alliance is a non-profit non-partisan entity that supports civic and community engagement no matter political party affiliation. Here at the Alliance we bring people together across western Colorado to build grassroots power through community organizing and leadership development. Our goal is to encourage students to become engaged even before they are eligible to vote, and to view voting as a right and responsibility always. As our future decision makers, the time to register to vote is now!
